Hi everyone! I'm back online and in the process of updating the site. It's been quite a ride, these last couple of years, to say the least. I am grateful to all of you who have visited during that time. I'm sorry I haven't kept up the site. That changes now, though. You can expect new content to begin appearing regularly. I hope to to set up a store where you can find items like the BYCU backing tracks, which became unavailable some time ago, along with new materials. New free content will of course continue to be added. I am working on genres new to BYCU, such and blues rock and Americana, in addition to the blues, jazz and R&B you've become accustomed to seeing on this site. It's good to be back. Stay tuned for developments.

Prime Blues Video!
August 8, 2022 Otis Rush is the subject of today's Prime Blues Video. A true master of the blues, Otis inspired the generations who followed him, including Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. His vocal style is, in turn inspired by the field hollers and haunting vocals of those who preceded him. His guitar style, though, is all his own. Clean in tone, he doesn't seem to need to show off. He's definitely got chops, though.
This performance is likely from around 1963, on one of the American Folk and Blues tours of the U.K. Some great and historic performances there. |
New Online Lessons Policy
(updated 6/30/2020) My current policy for online lessons has changed some. The price per 1/2 hour lesson is $30. When I get the store up and running on this site you will be able to set them up and pay right here. Until then, you can email me on the contact page (CLICK HERE) and we can schedule a time for your lesson(s). You can set up a single lesson or schedule multiple lessons. Students who opt for multiple, regular (weekly) lessons will be guaranteed the same time-slot, if desired.

Well worth looking at.

Today we have the great Wes Montgomery playing Blues in F with Dutch musicians on his
European tour in 1965. Wes didn't get overseas again, in part because he was deathly
afraid of flying and even sailing on the ocean. Also, we lost him only 3 years later, in 1968, at the
rather early age of 45. Fortunately for us, he left large catalog of recorded works.
