Jazzin' the Blues Is designed to help you take the step into jazz. With it, you will bring your your playing to the next level. Jazzin' begins at a basic, beginning jazz level of instruction and moves up from there. The 15 lessons contained, which follow the Basic Theory Review section, are progressive and build on each other. They take you , step-by-step into the world of jazz, using the blues as the common ground.
The emphasis is on chords, arpeggios and chord/scales. Learn them and you will be playing jazz. The chord progressions in the book progress from the basic I-IV-V type, to the addition of chord-substitutions and passing chords, extended and altered chords, and all the way to major bebop changes ala Charlie Parker. The soloing section (Melody) progresses in the same way, beginning with a basic pentatonic blues solo to beautiful minor blues tunes and bebop melodies. Jazzin' the Blues begins at an advanced intermediate level (where you ended up after finishing Blues You Can Use, and seamlessly moves you through the basic steps of playing jazz. The audio, which has both accompaniment by itself and the solo with accompaniment together, is accessed online using the unique code inside each book and can be streamed or downloaded. The audio files include PLAYBACK+, a multi-functional audio player that allows you to slow down audio without changing pitch, set loop points, change keys, and pan left or right. |
